From a minimum of 10 Megabits all the way up to 1 Gigabit, the Eagan Community
fiber is built for maximum speed.
Here are some quick answers to the most common questions:
What is "Metro Ring Fiber"?
Velocity "Metro Ring" technology is a proprietary mix of standards based technologies and unique innovative solutions. Velocity's Metro Ring bundles redundant self healing gigabit fiber rings with a redundant 10-gigabit backbone ring. This network is packaged with state of the art applications including the Velocity Virtual Office hosted business telephone system and Velocity colocation and hosting services including off-site data backup.
"These technologies are becoming cost effective" says Jim Hickle president of
Velocity Telephone, "and we believe we are the first to bundle these solutions
together into a cost effective bundle using innovative construction financing
and fiber deployment techniques that makes the services extremely cost effective
for small and medium sized businesses."
Is my business too small to use fiber?
No business is too small. We have fiber based
customers with 2-3 voice lines and shared fiber based Internet that have saved
20%-65% over their traditional phone and Internet service and have increased
their speed by 10 to 20 times faster.
Is fiber faster than other Internet
connections?
Fiber is a physical connection that carries all of
the current Internet backbone traffic and the maximum
limit of this connection has not been found. Is fiber more reliable than other services?
- Copper and Coax services are susceptible to
water, lightning and other interference. Fiber is
made of glass, so it is not impacted by electricity.
- Some copper and coax connections have been in
the ground for as long as 100 years and they are
failing at an ever increasing rate. The Eagan
Community Fiber Project is brand new and at the
beginning of its life span.
- The Eagan Community Fiber network is built using
a new “Metro Ring” technology with multiple Internet
backbone providers for a maximum redundancy and
service uptime.
How can I participate in the Eagan Community
Fiber Project?

fiber based services.
